Greenham Common High School and Elementary School opened for the first time in 1988. Prior to that, all high schoolers
had to attend London Central High School as 5 day boarding students at RAF High Wycombe outside London, England.
Unfortunately, GCHS saw it's last class graduate in 1991 with the closing of RAF Greenham Common due to the INF Treaty.
The school grounds were considered state-of-the-art for its time, and contained the finest sports and arts facilites in DoDDs.
The walls were made of magnets for clean hanging, the music room was round and acoustical, the track on the football field
was made of absorbant rubber, and the art class room had an extremely well equiped dark room.
Our school colors were black, white, and grey. The mascot was a cobra.
Not only we there students of active duty stationed at RAF Greenham Common, but we had high school students from RAF
Fairford that were bussed in daily. In addition, there were a few DoDDs teachers children as well as students of
American civilians working in England.
